Something From Nothing

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

An upcoming exhibition titled “Something From Nothing” will include Nowhere #5907. If you are in the Ohio area check out the Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery in Marion, OH. (The Ohio State University at Marion) Running from April 6th – May 5th.

Recent photographic adventures with Mr. Ulrich proved both fun and spooky. Dead malls at night are funny and/or creepy. However a woman driving by us provided the perfect sentiment for art makers today…

“All this for that?” Yes ma’am,  all of this for just that. Let’s keep shooting.

Lawn Chairs in the Snow

Looking forward to shooting in Dallas/Ft. Worth this month for Nowhere while I am also picking things up with Channels again. There is still a lot of work do with both projects. More updates as soon as it warms up a bit.

If you are in Chicago please be sure to visit Colleen Plumb‘s exhibition at the Historic Water Tower City Gallery (Michigan & Chicago), “Animals are Outside Today” is excellent.

Also, this absolutely made my day: Bessa III

World Wide Internets

Many thanks to Laurence Vecten in Paris,France, for the blog post. Her photo blog is all images and there are some great photographers, most of which I’ve never come across before. Check out LOZ.

My friend Brian has an remarkably well-timed image on his blog regarding the demise of Circuit City.

Also, if you find time check out the New Museum’s artist resource site Rhizome. There is a lot to see and read there. Great resources too. Paying members apparently get some extra perks. The free stuff is enough for me.

Busy Blistering Winter

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

So, the semester has wrapped up at Columbia College I’ve managed to rescan all of Nowhere going back to the beginning and I’m really happy to have done so. I made another trip to Los Angeles just before Thanksgiving and did a little more shooting as well as making a feeble attempt to shoot while I was home for  the holidays in Nebraska. Too windy, too cold. (Chicago weather is welcoming by comparison)

Recently I have been getting more involved with the Public Media Institute here in Chicago, they are headed up by Ed and Rachael Marszewski. These two operate two gallery and publish multiple magazines promoting local and arts culture. Specifically I have joined the Proximity Magazine team as On-line Editor/Director and overall Web Jerk.

Upcoming in 2009, Channels is in line to be featured in Vague Paper, a British Art/Lifestyle magazine. I’m very excited about that. Other news on the way. I hope you are all well.

It could be me, but its actually Paul Paper

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Earlier this fall I was asked to create a piece for an on-line project by Paul Paper. His project is growing quickly and is really an interesting take on authorship and collaboration, among other things. I decided this was good opportunity to do a Channels self-portrait with Paul Paper‘s twist applied to it. Each artist is asked to create a piece with no specific requirements except that it has to contain the text “It could be me but it’s actually Paul Paper.

Check out COULD BE ME, look for my contribution, and browse through all the pieces. There are some really wonderful works. There has also been talk of a book project coming out of this. I will post again if that does happen. Cheers, and happy thanksgiving!
